Kent County Community School offers a variety of speech and language services to the students enrolled at the Main Site and all satellite locations.
The Speech Language Pathologists supporting the KCCS students hold ASHA (American Speech Language Hearing Association) certification as well as Delaware licensure. All SLPs serve on IEP (Individualized Education Plan) teams collaborating with classroom teachers, other related service providers (e.g., OTs, PTs, psychologists, nurses) and, most importantly, students and families….to develop the most appropriate and functional goals designed to assure student success. Speech and language services are organized to meet the unique needs of all students and are delivered via push-in and pull-out formats, individual or group scenarios….whatever is best for the student….as well as ongoing consultation with classroom teachers, staff, and families. The speech and language department has access to the latest varieties of alternative and augmentative technology in addition to the most current assessment tools available affording our students the best opportunities for functional independence. Exploration of novel research-based interventions is always welcomed. The notion of TEAMWORK is paramount at KCCS: all SLPs participate on classroom teams encouraging daily collaboration which in turn guarantees that students meet their potential.
