Principal's Welcome

Principal Jim Mark I would like to welcome you to the Capital School District and the Kent County Community School. We have an exceptional team of student focused professionals to mentor our students through their academic journey here at KCCS! We are unique in that we offer programs that ensure all of our students representing multiple disabilities have access to a multitude of cutting-edge curriculum intervention programs at our main site and our 6 different “off-site” locations. We offer a continuum of services that meet and exceed the uniquely diverse needs of our students. Rest assured that our students are served in a responsive, caring, student- focused program that advocates for our student's success! KCCS has also cultivated outstanding relationships with several key State of Delaware agencies and also partnered with Autism Delaware, Central Delaware SLP and ABC Consultants.

Our main campus site serves our most severe students’ birth to 21 years old. These students are afforded the opportunity to meet the state content standards via a heavily modified curriculum implementing augmented instructional programs enhancing this ability.

Our students may matriculate to Booker T. Washington and our state-of-the art Elementary satellite. This site serves our EC-4th grade students in both self-contained and inclusion classrooms. In these settings our students have access to unique curriculum intervention programs, our outstanding district curriculum and professional staff ensuring their continued success in their educational journey.

Continuing on, our 5th and 6th grade students may attend the William Henry Middle School site. There, they will receive an outstanding continuum of services as they continue to learn critical core curriculum building blocks to prepare them for the next stage of their journey's, Dover Central Middle School.

At Central Middle, our students will be academically challenged and be prepared vocationally for their experience at Dover High School and our STAR Program. While at CMS, our students receive the same outstanding related services they have received throughout their time here at KCCS!

Upon arriving at Dover High School, the “Home of the Senators”, our students will continue to receive the same rigorous, outstanding academic, related service and transition support they have received throughout their experience with the Capital School District.

To complete our student’s educational experience, we "bridge" our CMS/DHS STAR programming at our Wesley Church Annex  and offer the opportunity to attend our  SEARCH program which is embedded at Bay Health. These programs enable our students to continue to matriculate, and become successful young adults as they enter our community.

In-closing, we would like to take this opportunity to thank you for entrusting the Capital School District and the KCCS staff with the education of your most prized possessions; your children! If you need any assistance or information along this life journey, please do not hesitate to contact myself, my outstanding associate principals Ryan Matthews or Kathleen Stephan, or anyone of our professional staff for assistance.
